Hillary Clinton's mantra to the super delegates has been that, although Obama is ahead in pledged delegates, overall delegates, popular vote, and states won, she has won the so-called "big states." In truth, she has...against other Democrats. However, when one looks at the vote count in a matchup of Obama versus McCain, another truth emerges.
More after the fold.
Of the so-called "big states," California, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, and Texas, all of which Clinton has won in popular vote, something interesting comes to the fore when total votes between Obama and McCain are compared. Below are the total votes for each candidate during the primaries:
STATE OBAMA McCAIN
California 1,890,026* 1,093,560
Ohio 979,025* 636,256
New York 697,914* 310,814
New Jersey 492,186* 310,427
Texas 1,358,785* 709,477
TOTAL 5,417,936* 3,060,534
* WINNER

According to the "math," Obama beats McCain 64% to 36% in the "big states."
The Clinton campaign meme that "we've won the big states" as an argument for the super delegates to nominate her basically falls apart. She cannot honestly believe that Obama will not win the same states she has in a general election based on the numbers and the climate of the country after almost eight years of BushCo.
