There isn't much to this diary. But let me preface by saying that I know Gov. Spitzer. We have typically referred to as "friends" though neither of us would go so far as to say we were more than acquaintances. My point is not to say that I that "I have a lot of Jewish friends" (as they say in the South), but merely to point out that I know the guy and I can DEFINITELY empathize with him to SOME DEGREE. BUT
As I've told every person I've known in my days who has run for higher office, "they call it higher office for a reason, it is a higher calling." And what I mean by that is simple:
IF YOU RUN FOR ELECTED OFFICE, YOU ARE RUNNING TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE.
Which means, you are here are on our request, at our behest. In other words, you are a lot like the betrothed male in a typical American setting. We have requested your presence at our house, under our rules, for a period of time, prior to having you marry our daughter or our son.
And at such time we typically instruct our future son or daugther in law... keep it between the lines while you're in our house.
Or as Robert Deniro said in Meet the Parents:
"I'm a realist. I understand that you've probably engaged in pre-marital sex with my daughter. But for now you're in my house, under my rules. Keep the snake in its cage for 72 hours ok?"
Is that too much to ask of our elected pols?
