With the most fortunate timing of the Spitzer takedown, the following are obliterated mediawise:
the rather early resignation of Four-Star Admiral William Fallon, the head of US Central Command, CENTCOM, a primary breaking-agent in moves to act militarily against Iran;
a pending Middle Eastern tour by Vice President Dick Cheney, the prime mover it would seem of military action against Iran;
Spitzer's actions in New York state to safeguard the right of women to safe, legal and accessible abortion should the U.S. Supreme Court succeed in banning abortion;
And more
Vice President Richard Bruce Cheney is presently cozily ensconced in his secure bunker somewhere under the ground wherever trolls hang out, but he will travel abroad beginning March 16, 2008 in the dark of night to pop up like a mushroom in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Israel, the West Bank, and Turkey for discussions with these key partners on issues of mutual interest. Very likely, the discussions of mutual interests will focus on how much all of those parties hate the nation of Iran.
Cheney will meet with Sultan Qaboos of Oman, King Abdullah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (this is where he will receive his orders for future U.S. foreign and economic policies), Prime Minister Olmert of Israel (shoring up relationships with Israel and AIPAC), President Abbas and Prime Minister Fayyad of the Palestinian Territories, President Gul and Prime Minister Erdogan of Turkey, as well as senior officials of their respective governments.

There had been rumors of the retirement of Admiral Fallon during the coming summer but it appears that an article in Esquire angered the Bush administration and prompted the earlier, possibly coerced resignation.

As early as April of last year, now former Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer began a campaign to secure abortion rights for the women of New York State.

ALBANY, April 25, 2007 — Gov. Eliot Spitzer said Wednesday that he planned to introduce legislation to overhaul the state’s pioneering but antiquated abortion law, shoring up abortion rights in New York.
The proposal follows the United States Supreme Court’s decision last week to uphold the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, at a time when several other states are moving to tighten restrictions on abortion.
.... Mr. Spitzer’s bill, the Reproductive Health and Privacy Protection Act, would update current law, which, for example, does not include a provision allowing for abortions late in pregnancies to protect a woman’s health. New York state laws on the books also treat abortion as a homicide, but with broad exceptions that allow the procedure in many cases....
Then there is the cozy U.S.-Canada military pact executed on Valentine's day, 2008:
Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other's borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.
Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas.
The U.S. military's Northern Command, however, publicized the agreement with a statement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation in a civil emergency....
