Something needs to be done to stop the confusion, so it is agreed by both cowboys that they will cut two inches off the tail of one horse; thereby they can tell the horses apart by the length of their tails.
This works fine for about two days, and in a strange coincidence the horse who still has his tail intact gets it caught in the gate of the ranch, and it is cut off at precisely the same length as the first horse.
Once again, the cowboys cannot distinugish one horse from the other. They decide to cut the left ear off of one horse, and thereby have a way to tell them apart.
....the punch line below the fold
The "one-ear-missing" trick works for almost a week, when a bobcat sneaks into the ranch one night and gets tangled up with the horses in their stable; incredibly the one horse with both ears intact has his left ear clawed off in exactly the same way as the first, leaving them indistinguishable again.
This time the cowboys are really frustrated, and decide to go throw back a few at the saloon and calm down. Another cowboy overhears their dilemma and suggests that they measure the horses; they can't both be exactly the same height.
When the cowboys get back to the ranch they grab a measure, and find out that indeed the black horse was almost two inches taller than the white horse.
The moral to this story is that race is impossible to ignore; everyone knows that Obama is the only black guy in the race.
However, if Geraldine Ferarro (and by implication of her lack of apology for the remark) wants to suggest that only because he's black that he's unfairly and falsely being credited with also being a horse, then we have a problem.
This one is a deal breaker, folks. If it's beyond the pale to mention that someone is a woman and therefore different than the rest, then it's also beyond the pale to mention that one has skin that is darker than the others and therefore different than the rest. It STAGGERS ME BEYOND MY CAPACITY TO COMPREHEND IT that within the Democratic party - the one party that has been arguing since the Civil Rights campaigns of the sixties that a man should not be judged by the color of his skin but by the content of his character -- an accomplished member of the Democratic party basically just took a giant stinking shit on the very concept of affirmative action by implying that were it not for unfair advantage that minorities get without justification, Barack Obama would not be in a position to be president.
Geraldine Ferarro is lucky that the worst that happened to her is a resignation; I'm amazed a stadium full of women didn't descend from the stands and beat her unconscious. Ummm...Gerry...if Obama only got this far because he's black, and you believe that being a minority is the only reason unfairly elevating him to a position he otherwise does not deserve, then any woman who has been elected to congress, the senate, or a governorship, is also only there because she's a minority, right?
What really amazed me is that

Gwen Moore, who all got elected to the United States House of Representatives...
and Carol Moseley Braun who got elected to the Senate (that bastion of fairness and equality) -
must all be so grateful that they were BLACK, because being talented or being a woman obviously would never have been enough to get them elected....
....isn't that what you're saying, Gerry?
The S.S. Ferraro - a pioneering vessel with a previously admirable reputation for exploring much unfamiliar territory and achieving a memorable history - just sunk today, after blindly ramming the S.S. Clinton. The Clinton is listing badly, but may be able to make repairs...
...if the crew of the Clinton is willing to get out there and repair the damage.
If not, then I suggest that Samantha Powers immediately gets her job back with the Obama campaign, and the new "Monster" thrill ride opens at the amusement park in honor of Hillary Rodham Clinton, with the inscription underneath the admission gate "She stands by her remarks".
