Just found an interesting, yet not surprising New York Times article on Howard Wolfson from 11/13/06.
In the piece, the Clinton campaign's Communications Director admits to admiring (who else!) none other than Karl Rove.
Wolfson seems to have built most of his reputation on character assassination, and, ironically, also had this to say:
"I was attracted to politics as a means of advancing the kind of policies and government that I believe passionately in," he said. "Politics is the way we effect change."
