I'm a bloody thirteen year old, and I'm more mature than most of you, Clinton and Obama supporters alike. I'm an Obama supporter, but the idiocy spewing from the mouths (or keyboards) of both sides is really starting to piss me off. I apologize for the bad language, but that's how I feel and I can't change it. I regularly read MyDD and Daily Kos, and both of them are now so partisan, divided and fucking idiotic that I can't stand it. I'm not going to boycott either, or go on "strike", which has now been suggested. I'm just going to sit back and let you guys screw it up for my generation.
Now, this is a rant, and rants are generally not logical or analytical, but I'll try to make this one both. First, MyDD. I've been keeping track of the Rec list for the last week, and around 70% of the recced diaries were anti-Obama. Around 20% were pro-clinton. And around 10% were mixed, pro-Obama, anti-clinton, or non candidate related. So at the least, only 30% of the diaries were positive in any way, shape, or form, and only about a third of those were pro-Obama. Over 70% of the Recced diaries were negative, some of them extremely so. For example, two days ago, a diary by TeresaInPennsylvania made the rec list. It claimed that Obama was "gaming the system", and offered as proof an email he sent out reminding Independents and republicans that they had to change their registration to democratic by the 24th to vote in PA. This, she claimed, was an example of republicans trying to destroy, corrupt, and generally screw over our primary. She conveniently managed to ignore the fact that exit polls show Republicans voting overwhelmingly for Clinton and that, more importantly, almost all of them don't like her or her policies, suggesting that they are gaming the system.
I initially thought it was snark. But from her comments, it was clear that this was what she truly believed.
Over here at Daily Kos, we have slowly been getting more and more insulting, boorish, and thuggish. Bias is what I talked about in my last diary, so I'm not going to say we're acting like Republicans. But we are, as a group, becoming bloody fucking idiots, one at a time. Blinded by hate for the opposition, fueled on by the simple fact that someone disagrees, the stupidity has been snowballing into an avalanche of hate, anger, and love. Yes, love. We love to argue, debate, and dissect - otherwise we wouldn't be here. But now, if we were face to face, there would be murder, and I'm not even kidding.
I hope you didn't enjoy the rant, and I hope you're depressed by how cynical of a thirteen-year old I am. I hope you keep on fighting, so you can look back, when you're old, and say: "Oh, those were the days when everything fell apart, and we left it for Gen. X to clean up".
I'm not saying everyone here is an idiot. Everyone who recced my last diary is, of course, a genius. And I can feel my anger fading now, and turning into pity. Which really tells you how screwed up this is, that a thirteen year old is pitying a bunch of adults.
Oh, and please give a bit of thought for my grandfathers. One of them's dying in Scotland, and the other is in Atlanta, where a tornado just hit. He isn't answering his phone, though he may well be asleep; it's 10:40 there and he's 74.
