still something we Obama supporters should think about. I'm referring, of course, to Alegre's diary about her decision to stop reading and posting to Daily Kos.
While this is not a strike in the real meaning of the word, I think people on this site need to take a step back and look at the behavior that prompted Alegre's decision.
As an Obama supporter, I am often embarrassed by some of my fellow Obama supporters on Daily Kos -- there are legitimate things to criticize about Hillary and her campaign, but I get really sick of the nasty, misogynist and ageist comments that often get posted. I'm almost the exact same age as Hillary and I know that getting into and through law school in that generation meant dealing with faculty and fellow students who thought women couldn't hack it, shouldn't be there, with men (white men, as Rev. Wright would point out) who were threatened by smart women. In my own grad program (public health) there was some of this also (though less than you'd find in law or medical school), e.g, a fellow student attacked the idea of women going to medical school because "they were only going to quit to have babies, so it's a waste of money to give them a medical education." Several other guys were cheerfully supporting him on this. My guess is that he had been rejected when applying to medical school and wanted to blame it on someone -- sort of like rednecks blaming blacks for everything.
My point is that attacking Hillary as a bitch, witch, old, cold, etc. is no different than making racist statements against Obama or calling Obama supporters "robots". Both types of attacks are intolerable.
If the only Obama supporters I knew were the abusive ones on this site, I would probably no longer be an Obama supporter. Luckily, most of my friends and relatives are also supporting Obama, and like most of the Obama supporters on this site, they are not filled with hatred and anger.
Let's remember that we need all Dems to come together to get our candidate into the White House. Being really nasty to people who are our competitors but also ultimately our allies, is not at all a good idea.
