For the first time in a decade there is a democratic challenger in VA-6 in the form of a hard working small business man from Roanoke. Sam Rasoul has been campaigning hard for fourteen months, through over 400 events already.
He spent the 2007 cycle down-ticket campaigning, supporting Democrats throughout the sixth CD with volunteer support, earning him the 2008 Grassroots Award at this year's JJ dinner as well as the Most Valuable Democrat Award from the Botetourt County Democrats.
I recently joined Sam's campaign to lend my skills and experience to his message of attacking the corruption from its roots. Sam speaks passionately about getting the lobbyists and PACs out of the drivers seat and putting the people back in control of their congress. He has refused to take money from PAC's and Lobbyists and will work his tail off to get publicly financed elections. He is a strong supporter of HR 676 and understands the problems facing small businesses and what we need to do to get the American education system back on track.
Below is our weekly newsletter, emailed out today (and reformated for DKos). Please take the time to read more and learn about Sam and why you should support his campaign.

Roanoke City Treasurer Evelyn Powers Endorses Sam
"My reasons for supporting Sam are simple: he is a man who will fight for the common
good of our citizens instead of the powerful moneyed interest groups and lobbyists
who continue to corrupt our government."
This past week Sam Rasoul was endorsed by Evelyn Powers, Treasurer of Roanoke City.
Evelyn is an active Democrat and well respected public official whose son is currently
serving in the United States Army. Her profound support adds to the growing numbers
of elected officials and community leaders who are ready for Sam to fight for true
change in Washington.

Volunteer Report-St. Patricks Day Parade
By Liza Hogeland
On Saturday, March 15th the campaign was involved in the St. Patricks Day Parade
in Roanoke City. We had several dozen volunteers marching with us. The level of
excitement I saw in the crowd for our campaign was very refreshing and made me
proud to be marching alongside Sam. I was especially thrilled when we were recognized
at the parade as having a very energetic sign campaign and high name recognition
in Roanoke. We were recognized by the parade announcer as having a huge "entourage"
and our green "Sam for Congress" balloons were a hit with the hundreds of children.
People knew us and were excited to see us out. Things are really starting to heat
up with the Sam Rasoul for Congress campaign.

Introducing New Campaign Manager Mario Piscatella
Our most recent addition to the Sam in '08 Team
Our campaign is now being headed by Mario Piscatella, a veteran of political campaigns from locations all over the country. Most recently, Mario worked for the Presidential bid of Senator Chris Dodd during the Iowa Caucuses. Mario brings with him a strong background in campaigning in in districts similar to Virginia's 6th. His skill and leadership is very much appreciated and we look forward to running a powerful campaign under him.
