I've been calling independents in PA for Obama.  These people have until March 24 to change their registration to Democrat in order to vote in the Dem. primary.

Yesterday evening I called 40 people in a bit over an hour.  Mostly answering machines and wrong numbers, but out of a dozen people reached, I found 4 or 5 Obama supporters who were willing to go to pa.barackobama.com/pavote and switch their registration to Democrat.  Last week I had a similar success rate, about 4 new votes per hour.

This is ***WAY** more effective than normal phonebanking.  Typically, being called raises the likelihood of voting by 5%, so you need to identify 20 supporters per every vote your call brings in.  However, in this case, every supporter you find is a new vote!  That means you're up to 20 times as effective now as you will be next week!

Rather than fret and sweat about minor fluctuation in the polls, please go to the Obama website phonebank page select Pennsylvania, and make a few calls.  20 calls takes about 30 minutes.

Since voter registration forms must be received by Monday, March 24, by this Friday people will no longer have the time to print the forms and be sure they're received on time, so it will be too late!  At that point, your phone calls will go back to their regular level of effectiveness = under 10% what they are today.

The best time to call is between 7PM and 8:45PM Eastern.

The Obama campaign has set a goal of 100,000 new Democrats by March 24.  An Obama victory in PA will decisively end the Clinton "kitchen sink" campaign.  A narrow defeat will keep him on track to be the nominee.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

on Saturday to Philadelphia.  The 3 of us (which includes our 8-year-old Hillary fan) will be registering new Dems, and changing registration for Republicans and Independents to allow them to vote for Obama.
We are incredibly excited (well my husband and I are, my little one thinks it sounds pretty boring and she's not too happy about getting votes for Obama).

So see -- my tip was entirely legal!

If, in our efforts to win, we become as dishonest as our opponents on the right, we don't deserve to triumph.

I live in the DC area and would like to go up to Philly to do the same. Let me know if you are from there and want to carpool?

        •  We're leaving at 7 am from Silver Spring, MD (0+ / 0-)

(where we live).  If you could get here or to the Forest Glen Metro (on the Red Line), we'd be happy to give you a ride there but can't drive you back because we're going off to visit my niece and her family in Philly after we get worn out registering people.
My almost-8-year-old wants to know if she'll like you.
She wants to know if you're good with kids.
(warning:  she's a real chatterbox and she's a Hillary supporter, but she's good-humored about it!).

I'm here at Penn State registering voters.  Lots of new Dems.  Frankly, we have a big here responsibility here on campus.  It's probably the largest and most concentrated Obama bloc in the state.  Thanks for the help!  I hadn't heard about the goal of 100,000.  Smarty-pants commentators said that we can't change the PA voting pool substantially.  Let's prove them wrong.
