As a left-coaster, I seldom have the opportunity to listen to Bill Press's radio program. Unfortunately, thanks to a restless sleep, I had an opportunity to this morning. While he claims to be neutral in the Democratic race, he's clearly pro-Hillary (not a crime, he should just be forthright). Listening to just one hour provoked me to send him this email:
I seldom listen to your program, because it's on too early on the West Coast. But, I couldn't sleep tonite, so I turned on the radio. While you claim you're neutral in the race for the Democratic nomination, in the hour I've listened, you've taken unfair shots at Obama on three different issues, so it's clear which side you're on.
- You quoted Obama as saying he "didn't know" how he'd vote on Iraq had he been in the Senate at the time. True...but as you know, that simple quote leaves it out of context. I know you know when he said it and why he said it...at the Democratic National Convention, and he didn't want to 'show up' Kerry, who had voted for the war. By failing to acknowledge the quote's context, you're being intellectually dishonest.
- Obama's speech. You say he should have confronted Wright or quite the church over the Pastor's comments...as he's been making anti-American comments for 20 years. He has? How many snippets of Wright have you heard? A few, right? Has he been speaking like this for 20 years? How would you know? You have no idea what he was saying 20 years ago. You've heard the worst of Wright. Have you heard the best of him? Again, intellectually dishonest.
- I'm now listening to you interview Debbie Stabenow. You asked her why Obama's against a re-vote. Obama has never come out against a re-vote. He's agreed to abide by DNC rules, whatever they may be, as he's been playing by all along. Again, intellectual dishonesty.
As I said, I don't have the opportunity to listen to your program, so I don't know what you've covered in the past. But, in the last 24-hour news cycle we've seen:
- On his program last nite, Keith Olbermann revealed a quote from Clinton in the fall...'We know the Michigan vote doesn't count'. Somehow, that didn't find it's way onto your program.
- First Lady records reveal Hillary was banging the drums for NAFTA. Again, no mention.
If you're for Hillary, just come out and say it. Don't treat your audience like fools. Leave that to the Limbaughs and Hannitys. The delegate math shows the race is over. Unless Hillary can get the superdelegates to flip the nomination, Obama will be the nominee. If SD's DO flip the nomination, chaos will ensue and John McCain will be our next president. If you're a real Democrat, it's time to get on board with Obama. Otherwise, you're just a Clintonista who's willing to destroy the party in return for a doomed nomination.
