"Hardball" with Chris Matthews just finished its lead story: a discussion with Rep. Joe Sestak (surrogate for Clinton) and Rep. Adam Smith (surrogate for Obama) on Tuzla-gate.
Sestak was a weak spokesperson for Clinton, attempting to defend her by saying that Teddy Roosevelt had burnished his own reputation by falsely claiming to have stormed San Juan Hill, and that JFK had hidden his Addison's Disease.
Matthews was rightly outraged by these parallels, adding that Obama "would be lacerated" if he came up with a similar "fish story;" "he'd be dead in the water," Matthews said of Obama.
Smith was an effective advocate for Obama, saying that his candidate could end the "constant spin" of Clintonian politics. He also managed to bring up McCain's gaffes last week.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by Tweety's performance this evening. Who'da thunk it?
