Hillary has just passed the extortionist in chief threshold. (You'll have to ask Obama whether he has.)
A group of wealthy donors just sent Nancy Pelosi a letter complaining that "suggested super-delegates have an obligation to support the candidate who leads in the pledged delegate count as of June 3rd." (Follow the link to read the full letter on TPM.)
These wealthy donors go on to say that "We have been strong supporters of the DCCC. We therefore urge you to clarify your position on super-delegates and reflect in your comments a more open view to the optional independent actions of each of the delegates at the National Convention in August."
In other words, if you support Barack, you can forget about our money.
This is everything I hate about politics. It's not surprising that this kind of extortion goes on. It is a little surprising that Hillary's donors have so little shame to do it so brazenly. But that's what I've been thinking about Hillary's campaign for a while now.
Update: This sense of entitlement is endemic with the Clinton people. Remember when Ferarro said that Obama should be nice to her because if he were to win the nomination, he would need her to raise money for him? (I was trying to find the quote and link, but couldn't--I have to run now.)
Of course, this sense of entitlement is also absurd given Obama's ridiculous numbers of individual donors and monies raised.
But the Clintons will never let a little thing like absurdity get in their way.
