I just came home from yet another exciting day for Obama here in North Carolina. My day started at the newly opened Obama office in downtown Raleigh. There I met a number of amazing Obama campaign staffers who have spent the last several weeks campaigning their collective asses off for Obama in Iowa, South Carolina, Colorado, California, Texas, Ohio and now North Carolina. Today we spent time researching local colleges and doing voter registration around the area. More below the fold.
Tonight we had an enormously successful Obama fundraiser in downtown Raleigh. Almost 100 people showed up, each donating $15, $20, $25 or more to the campaign. It's always an energizing experience to get out and talk to people, but the most amazing thing to me is the diversity of the crowds that turn out for our events. This is the America I want to live in.
We had the young:
We had the old:
We had Black and we had White and we had Latino and we had Asian:
We had gay and we had straight.
We had Democrats, we had Independents, we had Obamacans.
THIS is the America I want to live in! During the event our newly arrived campaign staffers made announcements regarding upcoming voter registration drives and handed out voter registration forms. They talked to us about the upcoming contest to win a dinner with Barack. They encouraged us to stop by campaign HQ located at 130 E. Morgan St. in downtown Raleigh. Then other volunteers stepped to the plate. We had the owner of a local theatre volunteer her location for future events. We had a jazz pianist volunteer his talents for future events. And we had local artists pledge their support in decorating the local office.
THIS is the America I want to live in. One in which people are inspired to action by a positive vision for what America can be. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. I'll be posted up at the office for most of the day and we're having a huge networking event tomorrow night at another downtown location.
Fired Up and Ready to Go because this is the America I want to live in.
North Carolina rising.
