Last night, I was looking through the list of superdelegates who have not yet endorsed a candidate. I thought....hmmm, which endorsement would be most important for Barack Obama? Al Gore, yeah, but it seems unlikely that he will go against the Clintons at this point. Harry Reid....too risky for his position as Senate leader. Nancy Pelosi....already said she would endorse the candidate with the delegate lead. Jimmy Carter......too controversial with the Israel-Palestine thing. His endorsement may hurt more than it helps.
Mike Easley! Yes, the governor of North Carolina. This would be the next most important superdelegate to endorse Mr. Obama.
Top five reasons why the Easley Endorsement would be huge for Obama:
- Governor Easley has the ground game in NC to help Obama get elected.
- North Carolina has a large population and an Obama win there would make it impossible for Clinton to win the popular vote nationally. (A big win would seal the deal)
- The governor of PA and OR have already endorsed Clinton and the governor of Indiana is a Republican.
- Besides California, NC has the largest number of uncommitted superdelegates left. An Easley endorsement may cause others to follow.
- North Carolina is followed by two states that are favorable to Hillary: West Virginia and Kentucky. A win in NC would develop needed momentum.
In light of this, I decided to start a letter-writing campaign to Governor Easley and I'm posting this diary everywhere. Please join me in writing a letter to the governor and please recommend this to everyone so that we can help Obama get this important endorsement.

Here is my personal letter to the governor:
Dear Governor Easley,
I am a PHD student at Oxford University and I am writing to you because I care about this year's election. I have a unique perspective to offer because I live in another country, I specialize in Middle Eastern Politics and I have spent a lot of time working and traveling in the Middle East. Like many others, I believe that the issues of the Arab world are immensely important to our country's future. I also believe that Barack Obama is the most capable candidate to deal with these issues. I believe his life experiences, identity and good judgment will allow him to do three things very well:
- Cultivate new relationships with experts in the field
- Develop essential alliances with other nations
- Negotiate with foreign leaders whom we have ignored for too long.
Here at Oxford, Mr. Obama's candidacy is a popular topic of discussion among the faculty, students and fellows. I know from our many conversations that the overwhelming majority of the faculty and students at Oxford's Middle East Center strongly support Mr. Obama and are excited about the potential for positive change in the Middle East if he is elected.
My enthusiasm and excitement about the potential of an Obama presidency has inspired me to ask for your endorsement of Mr. Obama. I believe that your endorsement would be immensely important to the Democratic Party and to the future of our country. Bill Richardson said recently that "it's time for the party to come together," and I think he is exactly right. Thank you for reading my letter and best wishes.
Please recommend this diary and join me in writing a letter to the Gov! Let's end this thing and get Obama nominated already!
