SurveyUSA has just released a new poll, taken on March 25th, with a national sample on the issue of favorability. The quick take-away: Obama is the most popular major national political figure surveyed.
SurveyUSA Favorability Poll
The basic numbers:
Obama - 38% favorable
Clinton - 35% favorable
McCain - 34% favorable
Bush - 22% favorable
Cheney - 15% favorable
Spitzer - 4% favorable
This poll shows much lower favorables and higher unfavorables for all candidates than in nearly any other poll (does this suggest that the pollster pressed negatives hard, or does it merely demonstrate the divided nature of the partisan electorate?). The unfavorable for McCain is the lowest at 39%, but Obama is only one point higher at 40%. Clinton is slightly higher at 42%
There are also large numbers of voters with a neutral opinion or no impression regarding the individuals - this is especially true of the three Presidential candidates. McCain is slightly higher among voters with no impression, likely due to the limited media coverage of his campaign. A strong opportunity to frame him among a large proportion of the electorate.
