Many here and elsewhere are concerned about the rift being created in the Democratic party, and are asking for Hillary to step down. Some are even asking for Obama to step aside, but there is little logic to support that. I just got through reading this diary about a Hillary supporter and it got me thinking. We the people have made our choice, and we the people don't have to wait for everyone else to figure it out.
More below the jump.
DailyKos has long been a site where one can go to see tomorrows headlines today. We are not the trend followers, we are a mighty pack of capable trend setters, and a force to be reckoned with. We know that Obama has already won. Even Hillary's supporters seem to know it, and she has begun to heal the divide. Meanwhile, the media is motivated to make this a horserace, even though it's not. And the superdelegates are all looking around at each other, looking for some kind of leadership on the issue, not wanting to be the first to blink.
It is time for us now to stop pretending otherwise than that Obama has already won. We should focus now on healing the divide with Hillary supporters, and stop calling them delusional, etc. It is time to stop using the future tense with respect to Obama's victory, it is past tense now. This is not to get arrogant, this is simply the same thing the networks do on election night when it has become mathematically impossible for one candidate to win, based on the numbers. So seriously, let's stop pretending Hillary can win, and start dealing with the aftermath. Note that I am not asking Hillary to drop out, because I don't care what she does. She has already lost. I have modeled this behavior here and here. We are the trendsetters. We can get the jump on the media, and start moving the narrative in that direction. Hillary can do whatever she wants, but we need to start winning the support of her supporters. We're the cool kids now. Let's act like it.
Update
Hi Hillary Clinton supporters! Welcome! I hope I have not been disrespectful in using the term "Hillary" to describe your candidate above, I do so only to distinguish from the Big Dog. We have a lot of work to do, and we welcome you to the Borg. Many of us have already lost our preferred candidate in this race, so we feel you. You have a formidable candidate, and she put up a good fight. I'm truly sorry that we won't soon be seeing the first woman president, and I sincerely hope to have her around in the next nomination bid, I really do. On the off chance she pulls out this nomination, I vow to work for her, but let's get down to work, shall we?
