I'll be the first one to admit that I'm not perfect. I've made a lot of mistakes in my life. Some really bad decisions that were occasionally fueled by one too many tequila shots. Hey, who hasn't got a story in their past about something stupid they did after tossing back a few?
But these guys take the cake.
PBS originally aired "Bush's War" in two parts on Monday, March 24, and Tuesday, March 26. The following excerpt came from part one, as Lt. Gen. Michael DeLong attempted to explain how he convinced Gen. Tommy Franks to endorse Runsfeld's bid for an invasion of Iraq:
Gen. Franks likes margaritas and I've got a margarita recipe that -- of course, I'm a tequila connoisseur. And so we sat down and had some margaritas and tequila and walked through: Is this the right thing to do for us, for the country? Can we look our troops in the eyes and say, "You're going to die tomorrow and here's why." And the answer was yes.
Once, when I was young, and stupid, and under the sway of a couple of magnificent Tequila Sunsets, someone convinced me to do something I'll have to plead the fifth on. But you know, when I sobered up, I had one hell of a headache and a lot of regrets.
But did Tommy-boy have any misgivings about this ill-advised war he agreed to whilst drunk?
So after that, no misgivings whatsoever.
Sorry about the short diary, but I'm at work.
