Let's Raise a glass to the Media
I'm having Rootin' Tootin Raspberry and a swaller of Loud Mouth Lime.
As you'll read below from the NYT Letters to the Editor, Mr. Goldberg will be having Goofy Grape.
Turning the Spotlight on McCain
To the Editor:
To the extent that Neal Gabler is right when he states that John McCain is "a darling of the news media," it’s not so much because he shares their sense of irony. It’s because he’s a Republican who is not reliably conservative.
So here’s a prediction from someone who’s been a full-time working journalist since 1967: The love affair will end as soon as soon as the general election begins (if not sooner). That’s when every gaffe by Mr. McCain will be portrayed by the media as "evidence" that he’s old — really, really old. That’s when every grimace will be "proof" that he’s got a hair-trigger temper.
When the Democrats stop beating each other over the head, and one of them starts running in earnest against John McCain, the media will no longer find their "darling" nearly as "ironic" — or nearly as lovable.
From a media point of view, it’s one thing when Senator McCain sticks a finger in a fellow Republican’s eye, quite another when he’s taking aim at a liberal Democrat.

Hey Bernard -pass me some of what you're smoking but stop harshing my buzz. The idea that the news media cozies up to the most liberal candidate was blown to smithereens by the last two elections when Bush high fived across America in his plastic bubble meeting handpicked crowds while opposition was carefully smothered with the overt participation of the media. So how was that beer with Bush? While the news media got drunk with attention the rest of the country had the hangover.
Why don't you read the first letter to the editor. H. R. Coursen sees it very differently than you.
John McCain's multiple major gaffes in a week showed a grave misunderstanding of the relationship between Al Qaeda and Iran. But then foriegn policy and defense are supposedly McCain's expertise. Looks like he has as much expertise in that area as the media does: F@#% all
That did not get as much coverage as Reverend Wright's fiery sermon nor Hillary Clinton's lie about her trip to Bosnia. I'm more concerned about the candidates' policies rather than what their pastor said once upon a time. It pleases me to see the word "former" in former CBS News correspondent Obviously it didn't come too soon.
ps: How was the Goofy Grape? The Rootin' Tootin'Raspbery had a little too much sugar. I prefer a little more flavor with my sugar. it makes the medicine taste a lot better.
