Media Consolidation is a cancer on our democracy - and most people have never heard of it. During the time that the San Diego Progressive Air America Radio outlet KLSD was under fire from Clear Channel; threatened with being turned into a Sport Talk format, three film makers, Jon Monday, Drew Reiff, and Jen Douglas decided to film the events as they were unfolding, in order to communicate something that is happening all around the country: the narrowing of political discourse as a result of Media Consolidation. Thousands signed petitions and attended rallies to support KLSD, San Diego's only progressive talk station. We are now asking you to support a grassroots-produced documentary about the effort to save KLSD and the larger issues of media ownership and regulation.
Many small donations will enable us to produce and distribute the documentary. The goal is to tell the story of the rise and fall of KLSD and explain the larger issues, thereby raising awareness about an important aspect of our democracy that is eroding -- the ability to receive local and diverse political opinions via our public airwaves.

Donations of any amount are most welcome. Each person who donates at least $20 will have their name mentioned in the film credits as a Save KLSD supporter. Each person who donates $100 or more will receive a Save KLSD t-shirt, a copy of the finished DVD autographed by the producers, and credit in the film as an Associate Producer. A documentary can't create change by itself, but it can enlighten, inspire, and lead to change. We believe in the power of media.
We hope you agree and will help the effort with a donation of $20 or more to help us get this DVD made and screened around the country. To fund the project, we are following the lead of political documentary pioneers such as Michael Moore, who funded his first film, Roger and Me, by holding Bingo parties and Robert Greenwald, producer of Iraq for Sale, which was made possible by many small donors, whose donors names were then listed in the film's credits. It seemed to us that grassroots funding methods are in keeping with the grassroots support for Progressive Talk Radio in San Diego.
The film looks at the effort to save Clear Channel-owned KLSD AM1360 progressive talk radio in San Diego, late in 2007 -- against a backdrop of increasing corporate media domination and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) efforts to relax media ownership rules even further. The film features grassroots rallies, FCC hearings, and excerpts from the local "Stacy Taylor Show" on KLSD, as well as interviews with on-air hosts, activists, policy makers, and experts, such as FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, House of Representatives member Bob Filner, Air America Radio personality Jon Elliot, Bob Edgers, President and CEO of Common Casue, and Eric Klinenberg, author of Fighting for Air, The Battle to Control America’s Media.
The film will be screened at a San Diego premiere in 2008 and will be available for purchase on DVD. We will outreach to local organizations to screen the DVD and will pursue inclusion at documentary film festivals nationally. We also plan a public relations campaign to garner attention from major news media. It's a tall order. Will you help us make it a reality? The producers will donate $1.00 from the sale of each DVD to organizations who are fighting against media consolidation.
Thanks for your support
