Some weeks ago, I marked four years here as Delaware Dem. Except I didn't even notice, since I completely forgot about the impeding anniversary amid the tense and action packed primary season.
My first diary as Delaware Dem:
The Next Democratic Administration
by Delaware Dem
Thu Feb 05, 2004 at 09:57:37 PM EDT
I know this has been done some times before but it is one of my favorite exercises in what-if-dom.
President--John Kerry or John Edwards or Wesley Clark or Howard Dean
Vice President--Bill Richardson
State--Former President William J. Clinton (I'm absolutely serious here. Only way to heal the world.)
Defense--Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware
NSC--Retired General Wesley Clark
Energy--Former Vice President Albert Gore
CIA--Retired General Eric Shinseki
Interior--Former Governor Anne Richards of Texas
Education--Representative George Miller of California
Commerce--Franklin Raines, CEO of Fannie Mae
HUD--Governor Gary Locke of Washington State
HHS--Julie L. Gerberding, MD, MPH, Director of the CDC
Veterans Affairs--Former Senator Max Cleland
Labor--Representative Richard Gephardt
Homeland Security--Representative Jane Harman
Agriculture--Governor Tom Vilsack of Iowa.
Attorney General--Dennis Archer, former Detroit Mayor and ABA president.
Treasury--Laura Andrea-Tyson
EPA--Environmental Attorney Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Council of Economic Advisors--Paul Krugman
DEA--Rand Beers, Former Asst Sec State for Int'l Narcotics and Law Enforcement
Well that's sucks. But I have been here longer than that, for I was Delaware Dean in an earlier life and only changed my name when it was certain that Dean was not to be our nominee. So perhaps my first first diary here on Daily Kos was better:
Saddam Capture Good News for Democrats
by Delaware Dean
Mon Dec 15, 2003 at 02:38:40 PM EDT
The prospect that Saddam's capture would happen as an October Surprise during next year's election is now over. Any boost to President Bush will last only for a few weeks and then concentration can begin anew on the President's destructive foreign policy and equally evil domestic policy.
Seriously, that's it. That was the extent of my supposed genius in my very first diary. Two sentences and hardly an original thought. Ugh. But we all grow, both in our political knowledge and in writing skill.
So if you are a recent first time diarist, or are hesitant to post that first diary, take heart. My first diaries sucked.
Daily Kos does make you better. It makes you a better thinker, it makes you a better political analyst, and it makes you a better writer. Well, fine, I will speak for myself, and say that it has made me better. So take a look at your first diaries and see how far you have come.
