The Ethanol Policy has been a disaster. Unfortunately, my candidate, Barack Obama, supports it. He should pay heed to the scientific studies that indicate that ethanol made from corn creates more CO2 than it takes in through plant growth. Biofuels and other renewables also don't need to be making our food more expensive.
So, I ask my candidate to reconsider his position on these things, to put his brilliant mind to work considering new and different policies.
He bravely confronted issues of race in that speech on race a few months ago. This is one more issue that needs that brave style of politics, or we won't reduce the harm to our environment in time.
Some might say this is naive to bring up, that it might lose us votes, but I think most Americans, if they knew, or if they already know, will respect a change of opinion on this matter.
I'm still rooting for him here, but I will be watching him on this issue, pressing him on this issue. I do not believe that my candidate of choice and I must agree on everything, but I would like Obama to acknowledge and agree with me, if not now during the election, then during his tenure in office. There are ways to mediate a better choice for production of renewable fuels, to manage any negative impact. There's no real way anybody's suggested to reverse the change in our climate.
Let's get this issue out in the open.
