Clinton needs to lose PA, for our good, for her good, and for the good of the country.
Calls for her to resign from prominent Democrats are premature and probably unhelpful. But honestly, it's just going to keep getting uglier and uglier if this thing goes past the last primary.
Obama's got a significant lead at this point, and while I'd support either one of them in the general election (my first choice was Edwards. My second was Dodd. This is because I'm racist and/or sexist, depending upon whom you ask), but I seriously think Clinton's lost the election, and it's just a matter of how long it takes for her and her supporters to figure this out.
And really, the only way for this to happen anytime soon is for her to lose in PA: lose the popular vote and the delegate count. If that happens, then I think those who are still holding on hope for a Clinton victory will have to really look long and hard at it.
I know what this is like. I volunteered for the Edwards campaign and I had strong hopes for him.
Not too far into the primaries, I had to face that this just wasn't going to happen. I admire the man. I'm glad I got to meet him (just a hello and a handshake, but wow, does he have presence), but when it was over, I understood why it was over.
I'd like those of us who are strongly supporting Clinton to have time to digest a loss soon enough that we can be united by the time of the convention.
You can chose to believe me or not, but I will tell you that if the roles were reversed I would be saying the exact same thing about Obama.
The Obamabots drive me up the wall, but that's not the majority of the people I know who support Obama, just as the majority of the people I know who support Clinton don't accuse those among us who oppose her of being race-baiting moon-eyed sexist sheep. I see some of both on a variety of blogs, but most of us are capable of better. I truly believe that if Clinton loses in PA, it gives us all time to sort this stuff out.
I will also say this: those of you who are Obama supporters (I would fall into that category at this point): when Clinton finally does drop out, or loses, or whatever: do not gloat, cajole, cackle, bait, etc., the Clinton supporters. Doing so is something your own candidate would tell you is inappropriate, and doing so is something that should rightly get you slapped down. It's immature, petty and, most importantly, will not serve you, your candidate or your country.
This is not a complicated prospect: we need each other to win in November, and in order for that to happen, we have to do it right.
