Remember THIS?
As Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman fights for his political life, his campaign on Tuesday accused his opponent's backers of hacking into the senator's campaign Web site and shutting it down just in time for Connecticut's primary Election Day.
...and THIS?
I have the definitive answer as to why Lieberman's site went down.
They are paying $15/month for hosting at a place called MyHostCamp, with a bandwidth limit of 10GB. MyHostCamp is currently down, along with all their clients.
...and THIS?
Straretz noted that if Lieberman "hacking" charges prove false, the FBI and federal prosecutors could pursue charges against those who reported them. "If it was fabricated and you could prove intent, there's Title 18, Section 1001, which is providing false statements to an FBI agent. That can be prosecuted at the discretion of the U.S. Attorney's Office."
Well, GUESS WHAT?

STAMFORD, CT (AP) -- Federal investigators have concluded that U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman's 2006 re-election campaign caused the crash of its Web site the day before the Democratic primary with Ned Lamont.
The FBI says it has found no evidence supporting the Lieberman campaign's allegations that Lamont supporters were to blame for the Web site crash.
(Update: Here's the link to the original Stamford Advocate story)
Yep, that's right. 18 months (see update below) and God only knows how many hundreds of man hours and tens of thousands of OUR tax dollars later, and the FBI has figured out what anyone with the slightest knowledge of website hosting has known since the day the site went down: Lieberman's site crashed because he was hosting it on a POS 2-bit dirt-cheap shared account that I wouldn't trust to host the campaign site for a county commissioner race, much less a U.S. Senate candidate.
(And, I might add, not just any U.S. Senator--the guy was a 2-term incumbent, extremely high-profile, former major party Vice-Presidential nominee and former Presidential candidate as well...and he was trusting his re-election campaign website to Bob's E-Z Hosting Barn).
Pathetic.
So, how about those fabricated "hacking" charges, Mr. Straretz???
I'm not holding my breath.
Update: As auntialias noted in the comments below, the FBI actually came to it's conclusion back on Oct. 25, 2006--less than 2 weeks before the general election. The extra 18 months is how long it took for the REST OF US to find out via a FOIA request.
That's even more pathetic. Who knows how much this bit of info might've impacted the election, especially given how much phony outrage the Lieberman camp made over it at the time?
Update 2: I almost forgot about THIS.
We’ve offered to send our tech guru over to fix their website problems. That was over an hour ago—no response.
UPDATE: Here’s the Google cache version of Joe’s campaign website. It’s not perfect, but it has all the content preserved.

That's right--not only did Lamont NOT have anything to do with Joe's site crashing, but Lamont's campaign actually posted a link to a cached copy of Lieberman's website on their own site--purely as an act of good samaritanism. Unbelievably classy, especially in the face of being the one accused of the "hack" in the first place.
Update 3: Wow, not just Rec'ced, but top-of-the-list. I'm flattered. Really, though, this whole incident made (and continutes to make) my blood boil because it crystalized EVERYTHING that's wrong about Lieberman himself, his 2006 campaign, MSM laziness, spin doctors, and modern political campaigns in general.
Now, what about Lieberman's slush fund (h/t to gchaucer2 below for reminding me about it)? Whatever happened with the investigation into THAT? Again, not holding my breath...
