She said that. She really did.
Well, ok, I'm lying. But I guarantee she's been thinking that about 24/7 recently. The Hillary campaign is getting super duper desperate recently, in case you haven't noticed. And now along comes one of her cutest little surrogates, Mr. Lanny Davis!
The vast majority of people (non-rightwingers, at least) have gotten past the initial shock we felt when we first heard the Jeremiah Wright soundbites. We've learned that these clips were only tiny, miniscule bits of whole sermons, which were taken completely out of context. That Rev. Wright's church has, for decades, done countless good works for the poor and mistreated members of the community. And that many clergymen, black and white, have now come to Wright's defense, telling the world what a good man he is.
So surely there aren't many people left who lose a lot of sleep over this .... at least not any Democrats, right?
Huh? What's that? What's wrong, Lanny?
I have tried to get over my unease surrounding Barack Obama's response to the sermons and writings of his pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. But the unanswered questions remain.
...........................
Clearly Mr. Obama does not share the extremist views of Rev. Wright. He is a tolerant and honorable person. But that is not the issue. The questions remain: Why did he stay a member of the congregation? Why didn't he speak up earlier? And why did he reward Rev. Wright with a campaign position even after knowing of his comments?
Yep, that was today. In the Wall Street Journal. By Clinton bedfellow Lanny Davis.
Oh well, no big deal. That's just crazy old Lanny for ya. Has nothing to do with the Hillary campaign in general. Surely, like the rest of us, Hillary and her people understand that the Wright story has largely run its course. Sure there'll be 527s bringing it up in the General, but nobody is surprised that the "shock value" of the story is now pretty much zero. Well....
Keith Olbermann: "Senator Obama is clearly closing the gap in Pennsylvania, leading nationally by ten among Democrats. Should we view the timing of the Lanny Davis op-ed piece about Reverend Wright in the Wall Street Journal as an accident?"
Howard Fineman: "No I don't think it's an accident at all. .... No it's not accidental, even if it wasn't commanded that it be written by Maggie Williams or Howard Wofson. The inner circle of the Clinton campaign can't believe that the Reverend Wright issue hasn't turned this campaign upside down. The fact that it hasn't, has them furious and confused, and Lanny Davis is lashing out in place of the Clinton campaign directly, which can't afford it, they think, to do it themselves."
"Furious," huh? Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I think this is absolutely sickening that Hillary Clinton and her insiders -- who claim to be Democrats -- are "furious" that most of the media is no longer dragging Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright through the mud! Obama and Wright, both obviously good and decent men . . . and yet Hillary and others want them to be torn to bits.
And some Clinton supporters can't understand why so many people now look upon Hillary with disdain.
