Not that we didn't know that already, but on today's Morning Joe he dropped a gem of a quote that nearly made my head pop for it's idiocy. I've never liked him, but I didn't realize he was this stupid. Below the fold.
Just before 8:30 this morning Mika Brzezinski was running down some of the current headlines for the "Morning Grind" segment:
President Bush is reducing the deployment lengths of new troops headed to Iraq. However, troops already stationed there, will stay put, until after the so called troop surge ends in July, possibly longer.
Then chimed Joe:
Bottom line, we're gonna be dangerously stretched until the American people decide what they want.
emphasis mine
Mika:
Bottom line,nothing changes.
News flash for you Joe. The American people HAVE decided what they want. In fact, the decision began to take shape going back as far as 2006.
CNN, June 16, 2006
A majority of those polled, 53 percent, said the United States should set a timetable from withdrawing from Iraq; 41 percent were opposed. However, respondents were split down the middle when asked whether a withdrawal should take place within one year, with 47 percent in favor and 47 percent either opposing any timetable at all or opting for a longer time frame.
So, Joe, the rumblings for withdrawal began nearly two years ago, not that you should be bothered to remember back that far. But there has been a steady climb in Americans' calls for withdrawal ever since.
World Public Opinion, September 6, 2007
Three in five Americans (61%) think US forces should get out of Iraq within a year, including 24 percent who favor immediate withdrawal and 37 percent who prefer a one year timetable.
Most recently we have this from Rasmussen Reports, April 8, 2008
A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 65% of Americans would like to see U.S. troops brought home from Iraq within a year. That’s the highest total recorded in the tracking poll which has been conducted regularly since August of last year. The 65% total is up six points from two weeks ago, but just a single point higher than the total from a month ago.
That's just three polls I dug up in about 15 minutes of googling. I know there are more and I believe they show a steady trend that Americans want our soldiers out of the Iraq hell hole.
I suppose one could give Joe the benefit of the doubt and figure that "decide what they want" refers to the Presidential election in November, but I don't think he's earned that benefit. He's just clueless. Jebus, it annoys me listening to him the morning, but I like the rest of the coverage.
