According to John Cole, Hillary's campaign sent out an email today that contained the following Obama-is-doomed messages:
Grover Norquist: 'That sentence will lose him the election... He just announced to rural America: I don't like you.' "Grover Norquist, the anti-tax activist who leads an influential weekly meeting of conservatives, went as far as to argue that Obama's line would cost Democrats the White House. 'That sentence will lose him the election,' Norquist told ABC News. 'He just announced to rural America: 'I don't like you.'" [abcnews.com, 4/11/08]
Republican strategist Ed Rollins: Q: "On a scale of 1 to 10 how damaging is this?" Rollins: 'Ten.' [CNN, Lou Dobbs, 4/11/08]
How to respond to this?
To quote Hillary:
"How many angels dance on the head of the pin? (laughing) "I have really, uh, nothing to ... I mean, how do you answer that?"
Despite Hillary's suggestion that her being asked about Bill Clinton getting big bucks from people who are working against what she claims to be against (like NAFTA)-- another crappy, corporate-friendly trade deal to screw American working people -- this question she was asked the other day really wasn't some metaphysical, Zen-like koan to ponder. So she acted all victim-y, as is her wont, and punted on a real answer.
Likewise, Hillary's use of Republican attack dogs to throw slime at Obama isn't some big mystery. She and Bill have always had a good deal more sympathy and respect for Republicans than their fellow Democrats.
And since Hillary and Bill have both tried to tear down Obama as unworthy of keeping company with the fabulous John McCain and the amazing Hillary Clinton, it's not surprising that they're continuing to use Republicans to bash their fellow Democrat.
Gorver Norquist and Ed Rollins, needless to say, are two of the most vile Repugs who ever slithered out of the primordial ooze. They've both been big players in the ongoing destruction of justice and democracy in the U.S.A., and they stand for everything a Democrat should be fighting against.
Not Hillary, I guess. The former Goldwater Girl is coming home to her own.
As John Cole says about the above email:
Hillary Clinton, right wing concern troll. When she was getting Norquist’s opinion, did she ask him if he had made any progress on the investigation into Vince Foster’s death or Whitewater? Did they ask Rollins about paying to suppress the vote in the 90’s?*
* FYI, here's what Cole is referring to:
Street money is nothing new in New Jersey, where elections are generally won on the ground. It was called ''walking around money'' in 1993, when Christine Todd Whitman's campaign manager, Ed Rollins, claimed that $500,000 had been doled out to ministers and Democratic Party workers so that they would not get out the vote among supporters of Mrs. Whitman's opponent, Gov. Jim Florio. Mr. Rollins retracted his statement the next day.
Hillary Clinton has once again made common cause with some of the worst Republicans ever to inflict themselves on this great country, just to bash the man she hates most: Barack Obama.
