I just recently found DailyKos due to getting so frustrated with the corporate media that I googled "liberal blog" and DailyKos was the first return. I now spend a few hours a day on this site, far more then I do on all other web sites combined. My question is where else do you go to get news/opinion online?
I'm very grateful the Internet exists so we can circumvent traditional media sources. But I don't know if I really do. With millions and millions of voices online, I (and I suspect many others here) still find myself at right of center corporate web sites to get our news. Its like we're programmed. As much as I wish I had an alternative to Drudgereport, I haven't seen one. As much as I wish I didn't check out conservative Mark Harperin's "thepage" 10 times a day, I don't know what is comparable for when I want to look at big pictures. As much as I could find something similar to Republico (Politico) I haven't come across it. So while I'm eternally grateful to have found DailyKos and I could see this site being my home base for decades to come, where else do we go? I'm new to this so please list any gems online you've found. Its freeing to have cut ties with Corporate televised media but I need a break from Corporate online media as well. Fuck Mark Halparin, Ben Smith, Matt Drudge, etc., etc. they are just as biased and politically motivated as Bill O, Hannity, Scarborough, Dobbs, etc., etc. Its just the medium that they use that is different.
Lets face it the Rethugs got the media on LOCK! I've got Sirius in my car and I'll often find myself listening to Wingnut radio because it just seems like they do a better job then the stiffs on TalkLeft or my local "progressive" station that features shit like Bill Press and Lionel. Its somewhat of a guilty pleasure. Or at least until they piss me off and get my blood boiling and I have to turn it off. I used to listen to The Young Turks religiously until Mark Green cleaned house at AAR getting rid of anyone worth listening to.
That's why I feel fortunate to have found Kos, albeit rather late. This site gets it. Please list more suggestions of sites that I can bookmark so I can stop giving the Corporate shills I've listed page views. Thanks.
BTW, I've been moving in that direction but this whole "Bitter-gate" thing is "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" moment. I woke up to see both Mark Halparins "ThePage" and Ben Smith's last several entrys all foaming at the mouth concern pieces on the "San Francisco comments." The most ridiculous of which was Mark Halparins asking:
Does this video mean Obama might face a Macaca Moment?
linking to Ben Smith of course. These guys are all 2 bit journalists aspiring to be as influential as their hero Matt Drudge. They are all part of an echo-chamber that I want out of. Show me the way.
Sorry for the rant. I'm just pissed off with this media driven character assassination. It started long before "Bitter Gate" and will go on long afterwards. These guys are right wing gossip journalist hacks that would make a better fit as the Political gossip columnist of TMZ or Perez Hilton then any self respecting news outlet like Time or Republico.
Thanks. And long live Daily Kos.
