Please forgive me if this has been linked already - I was out-of-town for a couple of days, and just saw this article this morning.
Iraqi Troops Dismissed After Basra Attack
More below the fold.
Nearly a thousand Iraqi soldiers dismissed and facing indictment for mutiny.
Mutiny in which these some of these soldiers and state police turned over their equipment and weapons to the militias they ostensibly fighting.
Let's run through that one more time, just to make sure we're clear on the concept: The United States government trains and equips Iraqi soldiers and police officers. Some of these same soldiers and officers then mutiny and turn over their equipment to the militias they are sent to fight.
That the Iraqi military and constabulary is riven by sectarian and tribal loyalties is no surprise to anyone who has paid attention for the last six years. That they would mutiny is no surprise either - it's happened before, and it will happen again.
And that Republican administration will continue to tell lie after lie to justify an illegal and immoral invasion and occupation? Well, that's par for the course, too.
This is just a brief reminder that there's more going on in the world than the MSM or the campaign diaries on this site would like you to believe. We're still sending some of our best and most courageous to fight and die for lies and greed, to support a puppet regime, and to provoke even more wars while precipitously endangering our own national security.
Please give a thought to that before you rec another campaign diary, won't you?
