I was driving, doing errands and tuned into my local Christian Radio Station 103.7 WWIB to see what the fundies were all in a lather about today. Station manager, Mark Halverson, was doing his afternoon news and commentary segment. I tuned in when he was playing a bit about the Obama and Clinton race. I tuned in just in time to listen to Mr. Halverson take a call from a listener.
I was driving, doing errands, today and tuned into my local Christian Radio Station 103.7 WWIB to see what the fundies were all in a lather about today. Station manager, Mark Halverson, was doing his afternoon news and commentary segment. I tuned in when he was playing a bit about the Obama and Clinton race. I tuned in just in time to listen to Mr. Halverson take a call from a listener.
The caller admitted that he didn’t pay too much attention to the news. Didn’t subscribe to or read the newspaper. Didn’t use the internet. The caller asked Mr. Halverson if he had heard about a locally printed giveaway rag—but I missed the name of it. Mr. Halverson said no, he hadn’t heard of it. Then the caller asked three questions about things he had ‘hear/read’ about Obama: I am paraphrasing from memory:
Caller: Isn’t it true that Obama is a Muslim?
Mr. Halverson. "No. He’s a member of a Christian Church—a controversial Christian church, but he is not a Muslim"
Caller: Isn’t it true that if he’s elected president, he won’t swear on the Bible?
Mr. Halverson: "No, that isn’t true, he’s never said that."
Caller: Well, I heard something or saw a picture of him not holding his hand over his heart...
Mr. Halverson: "(Explains what the photo was)...You know, I attend a lot of ball games as an announcer for this station and I am there for a lot of National Anthems and I don’t always hold my hand over my heart. I know some people who never do. I don’t think it is or is not a sign or anyone’s patriotism. You know there’s a lot of garbage out there..."
Wow. So Christian listeners, straight from the mouth of one of your own. When it comes to the 'news' about Mr. Obama, there is 'a lot of garbage' out there.
Of course, this begs the question then: where did all this ‘garbage’ come from? Irony is not part of their vocabulary but I thought I'd share this one.
