Yeah, the conventional wisdom is that politics is a dirty game, but that's the way you've gotta play it. And Hillary is in full Smackdown mode.
I hate it a lot. And I don't think it HAS to be that way. It wouldn't be if I were running for President, and I don't think it would be if it were you, either. And there's a scary undercurrent to her approach.
There was one individual on the ABC doofusquiz debate that was presidential, rational, and respectful of both the office for which he is running for and us, the voters.
You know who I mean. Easy to spot. No mud up to his elbows. No drool dripping on his tie.
This isn't funny, though, and it isn't "just politics." I think it's a sign of danger.
It seems to me that Hillary's "do anything, anything at all to win" approach signals an attitude very similar to W's. An attitude that leads to supporting torture. An attitude of someone with very flexible situation ethics. Can we trust Hillary to stand up for what's right, or will she do "whatever it takes" to get what she wants? After watching her twist words and sense in order to pin Obama in ways that are, at the least, dishonest, I would fear for our country.
I'm a delegate in a Washington State Democratic county convention this Saturday, pledged to vote for Obama. From my precinct there are three delegates, two for Obama and one for Clinton. I'm hoping to see the Clinton supporter change his vote--I sure hope he will.
But I won't wrestle him for it.
Because of the debate's timing, I suspect that many of my fellow Washington delegates also watched it. Next week, watch for a change in the Washington delegate count going forward.
