Americans have short memories. Back when George Stephanopolous, James Carville and the Clintons had to withstand attacks from George Herbert Walker Bush about draft dodging, extra marital affairs, and post smnoking -- the famous Clinton "war room," had a one sentence motto that guided them: "It's the Economy, Stupid."
Back then, the irrelevent, personal bullshit didn't matter to little Georgie Stephanopolous.
Back then, though, he was working for a candidate who was under siege from the machine. Now, he works for the machine and has been co-opted.
He justified repeating bullshit GOP frames and smears as a test of Obama's "electibility."
Well...Obama responded yesterday with his own version of "It's the economy stupid." He joked about how this was the same old nonsense politics from Washington that got us into this mess.
And that it took 45 minutes before you or Charlie Gibson aksed a single quetsion that voters actually cared about.
In 1992, George, did you have sympathy for the reporters who dug through the trash looking for evidence of Bill Clinton's black love child? Or evidence of sexual harassment?
How times have changed, little Georgie. How times have changed.
UPDATE: It's still the economy, stupid -- in Pennsylvania.
