The relevant quote from letter:
Barack Obama's foreign policy plans have even won him praise from Hamas leaders. Ahmed Yousef, chief political adviser to the Hamas Prime Minister said, "We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win the election. He has a vision to change America."
We need change in America, but not the kind of change that wins kind words from Hamas, surrenders in Iraq and will hold unconditional talks with Iranian President Ahmadinejad.
Update [2008-4-18 17:3:52 by lmalave]:I forgot to note that the Huffington Post article lists the following as the subject line for the letter: "Hamas Weighs In On U.S. Presidential Election". So it's not as if this wasn't the main thrust of the letter.
Obama needs to hit back HARD. This is a thinly-veiled Muslim smear and Obama should use it to shatter McCain's reputation as an above-the-fray candidate who just wants to debate on the issues.
Update [2008-4-18 16:43:36 by lmalave]:
Obama can also use it to attack McCain on Iraq and the "100 years" mentality. McCain and his supporters have repeatedly made statements that we can't end the occupation in Iraq because if we do "Al Qaeda will be dancing in the streets". This is NOT a way to set foreign or military policy! Policy should be made according to a sober assessment of the effects of pulling out, NOT because we don't want to give Al Qaeda, Hamas, or someone else the satisfaction of seeing us leave.
Iraq war supporters claim that if we leave Iraq it will become a terrorist haven on the scale that Afghanistan was under the Taliban. Yet all the evidence points to the contrary: Iraq has become a terrorist haven BECAUSE of our presence in Iraq! Obama is proposing a sensible policy to pull out of Iraq and refocus on legitimate threats such as nuclear proliferation and global terrorism.
Update 2[2008-4-18 17:03:36 by lmalave]:
Obama's words from his now famous 2002 speech still ring as true as ever:
That's what I'm opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics.
What McCain is proposing is a dumb, emotional, irrational policy. He's letting groups like Hamas and Al Qaeda dictate U.S. policy because he can't stand to see them gloat if we leave Iraq.
