Matt Stoller has a piece at Huffington Post right now that, essentially, claims that Al Gore is helping John McCain into the White House.
Did I say "essentially"? Actually, that is exactly what he says. In fact, it's the title of idiotic column just posted at that website.
I've got a few choice words for Stoller: Shut up. STFU!!
So what's the proof for Stoller's ridiculous assertion? It basically comes down to this little blurb from his column: A spokesperson for Gore, Kalee Kreider, is quoted as saying on the issue of global warming:
"Former Vice President Gore thinks that both candidates are very strong. Both of them have offered plans to address the climate crisis ... as has Senator McCain," she said.
And that's it. Nothing actual from Gore. No endorsement of McCain over Obama or HRC. Nothing. Nada. Nicht. Zilch!!
Based on this flimsy excuse, Stoller takes this potshot at Gore:
Al Gore has tried extremely hard to build a movement without politics, and it just isn't working. As a candidate, he tried to run without attacking Bush, and as a global icon, he has launched an apolitical TV channel and hosted a bunch of mega-concerts that didn't really advance the argument on climate change. And now that Republicans are poised to use climate change as an excuse to siphon money off to industry, Gore is jumping on the McCain bandwagon.
Better party elders, please.
How someone of any repute would write this kind of bullsh*t, knowing Gore's lifetime of support for the Democratic Party, is unfathomable.
I stopped visiting Huffington Post quite awhile back (the brilliant David Roberts excluded. (I stumbled across Stoler's piece through a google news search.) Now I remember why.
The Democratic Party is dealing with enough divisiveness right now without people like Stoller jumping in and smearing around the dirt. By attacking Gore, he does the Democratic Party no favor, nor Obama. Nor his own reputation.
