The Greater Philly region has our local version of RW radio known as WCAU or "The Big Talker". Like other RW stations, they roll out the usual RW hosts like Hannity and Rush. Other than listening to Phillies games, I usual avoid this station with one exception....
Michael Smerconish is the A.M. rush hour host. Most of the time I find him somewhat self-serving and usually he parrots the same RW talking points, but there are times when he actual makes good points. This morning's show was an example.
Now I didn't get to hear the entire broadcast, I had to get into the office, but what I did hear was 20 minutes of commercial free talk radio on a typically RW slanted station that did not make me want to vomit. Smerconish had two guests on (maybe someone out there can name them), and they were talking about Obama's run for the nomination, and what it meant to the country.
Smerconish honestly sounds like he's tired of being just another parrot for the G.O.P. base. It seems like he really admires Obama and when his guests had insightful points to add, he did not pull an "O'Reilly or Hannity" on them to cut them off. It was actually interesting to listen to, and I was kind of disappointed I had to stop listening when I arrived at the office.
Alas, some things never change. One of his first callers was a woman who typically went on to attack Obama as using his Black roots to exploit his run for the Presidency. Some people just don't get it.
