Not really - just thought I'd use the misleading headline trick and see if it gets me rec'd.
What I'm really doing is urging folks to PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY stop with the voting trouble shrieking headline diaries, unless there is overwhelmingly compelling evidence of some nefarious plot. (i.e., do not use my headline above in a serious manner. Only for funniez)
Here's the thing. Elections are messy things. Sometimes machines don't work, or the wrong amount of ballots/machines/people are sent to certain places. Elections are run by people, and people make mistakes. It happens - not every burp in the process means a plot is afoot.
We should certainly be vigilant and be watching for things; attentive civil behavior is certainly better than passively wandering through life hoping things worked. But every time there's a primary somewhere, this place fills up with breathless reports that poll machines went down in such and such neighborhood AND THIS CAN ONLY BE DUE TO THE CLINTON MACHINE or OMG THE MACHINES STOLE MY VOTE, and almost all of these turn out to be less than nothing, meanwhile we look silly, and folks coming here for actual information about how things may be happening on the ground, holistically, are left in the dark.
Similarly, diaries going bananas about massive turnout at this or that polling station, while interesting anecdotally, are not worthy of breathless reportage claiming Obama's got this in the bag! Let's just report what we see - machines go down, let's let folks know in case they're headed there, and keep the local officials in the loop. (Texas primary day was a GREAT example of doing this right...) Let's give them a chance to do their jobs before we assume they're taking advantage of us. Let's report anecdotes AS anecdotes.
There are always plenty of good diaries who follow these guidelines, and they're useful, entertaining, and help us losers in the early voting states feel included. But, please, can the easily excitable paranoiacs STFU for a day and let us see how this unfolds? I know, I'm just bitching. But I like it when DK is filled with responsible, informed reportage. That's all. Just venting. It's all said with love, my friends.
