Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, told Chris Cuomo on GMA this morning that should Iran attack Israel with nuclear weapons, "I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran...In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."
Why is this not on the rec list? I found this on AndrewSullivan...its scary when I hear words like "totally obliterate them". Them as in the Iranian people.
What is the point of all this rhetoric? Any reasonable person could see that Iran would never attack Israel.
Let's face facts here. Iran is completely surrounded on all sides by American armed forces. 160,000 troops are in Iraq, U.S. carriers are in the Persian gulf (submarines as well), there are bases in Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan...and tens of thousands of troops in Afghanistan.
On all sides Iran is surrounded and now Clinton proposes a NATO like pact with Arab nations to "protect" against Iran?!
And explain to me why Iran would attack Israel when it would mean there imminent destruction? Israel would simply nuke the entire nation. Why does the U.S. need to be a deterrent.
In fact, looking at a map of the region it seems like our policies over the last years have been designed to surround Iran. We are supposed to believe that Senator Clinton thinks that Iran needs the threat of U.S. retaliation to stop them from attacking Israel?!
Israel has nuclear weapons. Hundreds. They have a superior conventional force. Why would Israel need U.S. help if they were attacked. It's madness and she must know it.
I am afraid for our nation if we have to choose between McCain and Hillary Clinton. I'm afraid for the entire world. I'm afraid that Obama will keep us engaged in Afghanistan to fight boogeyman. God help us.
EDIT:
I wish Olbermann would have followed up her long statement with, "You said that Iran is attempting to get nuclear weapons the recent NIE would seem to be at odds with your statement, do you have knowledge that the recent NIE report was mistaken?"
