I know I am going to be talking in General terms about the people I have seen on this site and on others and in the streets trying to make a difference and make stand. Why we talk and talk until we are blue in the face (sorry for the pun).
I was sitting here watching the Obama videos and I got to thinking. What is that drives most progressives? What makes us feel and bleed, and how when ever we see a injustice that we rail against with the Righteous Indignation that shakes the heavens? Then I hit on; it was a quote from Steinbeck gave it to me.
Then it don't matter. I'll be all around in the dark - I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can look - wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when the people are eatin' the stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they build - I'll be there, too.
It's because over every one else telling us one person, or a common person can not make a Difference we want, we need, we have to show that we as humans, as Amercians are better than that. That is why I believe we do this.
Normally I have bigger point but really my written English isn't any good, and to fair I wish not to speak for everyone. However seeing the Obama ads I keep hearing in the back of my head "The Ghost of Tom Joad"
and how we are all wanting to stand up against the injustices, where a man wants a good job so he can get food and health care for his kids, a woman that wants a good job to help her aging parents who is now getting sick and the bills are stacking up. We want to help those that need a hand, and we want to show how, well... how the good lord wanted us to treat each other. How we should look after our fellow man.
We, I feel, do believe that the last shall be first and the first shall be last, we have the "firsts" to prove that, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, George Soros, giving time and money. They could be like the other 1% and kick us around but they feel that we are all on this planet together, the least we can do is make it bearable if not enjoyable for each of our own fellow man. How sad is it that we hear these Rightwing nuts tell us about their God, well I know something about God too he would want us to help each other.
What always shocked me, as how we as Progressives and Liberals are always called Elitist when we are the one that want to give more money for health care, more money for homelessness, more money to give Hope, and not to give money to big Business so they can line their pockets with blood money. I feel that word elitist is something we as progressives and liberals should take back and take control of it. until it doesn't sting. That word should be made powerless when it thrown our way. We show time and time again that most progressives and liberals have big hearts and want to do good. we are willing to homeless shelters and feed and clothes and talk to those that are there.
That is why we do this, because we GAVE A DAMN. When is the last time you saw Bush sit down with some homeless guys and talk and get them some hot food. When is the last time you saw Rev. Hagee go to an AIDS client and offer to help someone in need. Pat Robertson? Dick Cheney and his So. I seen John Edwards more than once roll up his Sleeves and work a hard days work in NOLA. That is why we do it we care about each other. We care about the common good. We GIVE A DAMN.
