Ok, It doesn't really count for anything, but in Tuesday's primaries, Tony Barr got more votes in the Democratic primary than Bill Shuster got in the Republican primary. I know that it doesn't stand up to statistical scrutiny, but I think it does show what is possible here in Central PA. There is hope that we can rid ourselves of yet another George W. Bush rubberstamp. Our press release is below the fold.
Upset in 9th District Congressional race
ALTOONA PA
According to the website of the Commonwealth Department of State election returns, Democratic challenger Tony Barr received more votes in the April 22nd primary than did the incumbent Bill Shuster (R PA09). Tony Barr received 57,489 votes, while Shuster received only 56,921 votes. While hardly a landslide, the 1% Barr edge going into the general election makes an upset in the 9th District a distinct possibility.
"Obviously, we have a lot of work to do" Barr said, "but we are eager to bring our message to the voters in the 9th District. The Bush/Shuster era hasn’t been good for the 9th District and we are confident that the voters are looking to make a change, but we still have some work to do"
