Right now CNN is reporting that John McCain is in New Orleans for a 'forgotten' areas tour (aka the areas forgotten by the likes of Republicans and the DLC).  The headline on cnn.com is that McSame 'scathes' Bush's response to Katrina. [Feel free to drop a comment at Jack Cafferty's blog regarding your thoughts towards McSame in NO and his photo-op. ]

Interesting. Here we see McSame try to claim some difference from the Imperial Bush way of doing things.

So is the 'maverick' GOPer actually ANY different from Bush on Katrina? Well, while reading the HuffingtonPost, a startling post reminded me of how little difference there truly is between McSame and Bush.

Over at huffpost, there is a very disturbing, yet funny, set of photos that feature McSame and Bush hanging out celebrating McSame's birthday in 2005. Having myself just learned very recently that McSame's birthday is on August 29, this was a great post to find. As the pics show, the two are on an airstrip enjoying some cake. Bush is licking icing off of his own thumb. At that same time, a monster hurricane was ravaging the Gulf Coast.

So while he goes around 'scathing' Bush's heckuva response to Katrina, we see photos here of the two good ol' boys licking icing off their fingers while NO drowns. I think it's safe to say that the 71-year old John McCain is experiencing some lapses in memory, if he is to criticize Bush's performance on Katrina when the two ate cake together on the day of the storm's landfall. But for us here, watching GOPers lie is so routine that it  is usually much more shocking if they actually say something remotely truthful.

However, it is our job to point out the truth about McSame, the same way a honest man with a video camera and a simple message told the truth to Dick CHeney when he tried a phony photo-op in NO in 2005. Remember the guy that told cheney to 'go fuck himself'? I did a google search, and found the guy's own home video that documents him driving to Cheney's photo-op and personally delivering a Gulf Coast resident's honest opinion about Cheney and his heckuva bad administration.

Take a moment from being frustrated with Hilary's Pyrrhic victory and keep the guns focused on the guy the traditional media is disgustingly in love with....mr mcSame.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

not to mention huffingtonpost, of course, where I got my original link.

barbin MD frontpaged this when I was about halfway through this one, and she has a different pic from the two in the huffpost article.

    According to CBS News:

McCain says making FEMA an independent agency isn’t the problem. He said there needed to qualified people in the job. "The former head of FEMA was not qualified," he said. "They haven’t always had a terrible record."

He also told reporters he was not sure if he would rebuild the lower 9th ward as president.

"That is why we need to go back is to have a conversation about what to do-rebuild it, tear it down, you know, whatever it is," he said.

So more than two years after Katrina Mr. Straight Talk Express wants to have a conversation about rebuilding the Ninth Ward.

maybe it's just me, but it seems like a not-very-subtle  way of siding with the developers who are down there right now, pushing controversial and often unfair projects....some at taxpayer expense.

the failures of the nat'l govt in katrina.

he is reaching mitt romney levels of talking bullshit....the spin here is ridiculous.

like hilary, McSame relies on voters having as little information as possible, so he can pull off romney-esque flip-flops. kind of like a fish out of water gasping for breath, these gop'ers flip flop around hoping to land on the correct answer of that particular moment in political time.

  •  Correct me if I'm wrong.... (0+ / 0-)

...but isn't McCain referring to Bush's response to Katrina?   By response, I mean the response to the disaster, not what he was doing on the day it made landfall.  Kinda hard to respond to something that hasn't happened yet.

katrina didn't just appear on august 29, it was forecast days, even a couple weeks, in advance.

the question, and barbinmd points this out on the frontpage, is why is mcCain going around saying that he would have personally flown to 'the nearest air force base' and visited the gulf in person, when he spent august 29 2005 eating cake with the guy holding the desired office. and thus, should not have been eating cake, but instead should have, in mcCain's own words, been on a plane to get up close and personal.

the visual image is striking by itself though. here you have mcSame taking shots at bush, when the sheer irony of their buddy-buddy photo-ops obliterates the talking points McSame is using right now, today in New orleans

Bush and his staff were briefed the day before Katrina hit and TOLD that the levee system could/would fail.

  •  It's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback (0+ / 0-)

& that's what McCain is doing about Katrina. I doubt very seriously he would have been here any quicker with any better solutions than Bush. I can understand the initial shock & not know what to do first because this was a catastrophe of amazing proportion. That excuses the first few hours... maybe. But then someone should have taken charge & started lining out help.

They knew transportation, food & water & shelter were all issues needing immediate coverage. Maybe they should have called the people that helped after the tsunami because those people moved instead of staring at pictures on the tv. Our government on all levels was clueless on where to start. It was like the Keystone Cops only it wasn't funny.

I still see how much life has changed here & doubt it will ever be close to what it was before. We have lost our trust & will never feel really safe again.
