The other day Kos did a post on the Newsweek poll. I would like to go farther inside the poll and reveal some more of its astonishing data.
Even in one of his worst weeks as far as media treatment goes, Obama is still atop Clinton 48-41 according to the Newsweek poll and defeats McCain 47-44 in a general election matchup.
But by analyzing even results from even more of the poll's questions, we see that the public perception of Obama seems quite the opposite of how the media is trying to portray him.
On the question of elitism, it seems the public isn't buying this ridiculous notion that somehow Obama is elitist. One of the first things that jumps out at you regarding this poll is that Obama still has the highest favorables 53 - 40. McCain is a close second with 51 - 41 and Clinton lags behind the other two at 47 - 49.
But an even more striking result comes from the question of which candidate shares a respondent's values. Here, Obama wins the category outright: 51% believe he shares their values while 42% do not. For Clinton the numbers are 49 - 45 and for McCain the numbers are 47 - 45. Obama even bests Clinton on this question among white voters by a single point.
Another interesting question that was posed was whether or not a selected candidate would fit in with people in one's local community. Obama had good numbers here as well - 56% yes, 37% no. McCain's numbers were 57 - 35 and Clinton's numbers were 52 - 41. Again, Obama bested Clinton among white voters in this category by a single point.
But the most important results regarding the media silliness over Obama's purported "elitism" comes from this question: "Please tell me which of these three candidates, if any, you think LOOKS DOWN ON PEOPLE LIKE YOU"
Obama wins this category: Only 25% of respondents felt he looked down on them while 65% didn't. Among white voters the numbers were 27 - 63. Clinton's numbers overall on this question were 32 - 61 and McCain's numbers were 26 - 63. Again, Obama's numbers were better on this question among white voters than Clinton's.
So as one can clearly see, the voters are not buying into the preposterous notion that Obama is elitist. Quite the opposite actually.
(I'll be updating this dairy later on throughout the day as I have time)
UPDATE: This has nothing to do with the diary, but I wanted to let everyone know that according to the PPP poll in NC that just broke today, Obama is leading early voters 63 to 31%.
