Not that Wright is right; just that Hoyer is so wrong. Throw in Pelosi, too – and Murtha and Emanuel.
The House leadership plans to pass another 170-billion dollar Iraq war supplemental before Memorial Day, before more veterans blow their brains out or return with post traumatic stress disorder to shoot their wives in the shopping mall.
Benchmarks? Timelines? What are those?
Nothing you’d recognize in this next supplemental. Instead
the House leadership wants to give Bush 70-billion more than he requested, all with no strings attached.
Why?
That’s the question I asked when I called (202-225-3121) Murtha’s office the other day.
What are you thinking? I asked Murtha’s aide.
Bush controls the media, he told me, and the right will call us unpatriotic if we don’t fund the troops.
Well, why don’t you just kept sending Bush the funding bill with timelines, the one he vetoed last year? Tell the world it’s Bush and the Republicans who won’t support the troops.
We can’t do that. No one will believe us. Fox News will spin it. Everyone will blame Congress for not supporting the troops.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Senator Obama, Senator Clinton, please, tell these politicians they’ve got it wrong. Rather than taking the war debate off the table, by funding the war through 2008 and into the next Presidency, they, YOU, need to talk about it.
Talk about how America’s children will forfeit their health care to pay for this 3-trillion-dollar war, how 1 in 5 veterans are returning with serious brain injuries, how millions of Iraqis
have been killed or exiled while a US corporation builds a grotesque amusement park in the Green Zone. Talk about the missing billions and the missing arms that find their way into the arms of the insurgents.
Don’t listen to these losers in Congress. Never mind Wright. It’s Steny and Nancy and John and Rahm who’ve got it more wrong that Wright could ever know.
