Much has been made of the alleged Kantor statement on the YouTube clip from the War Room. At this stage it is unlikely that anyone will be able to definitively prove exactly what he said. And, in regards to this election, it is meaningless in terms of the issues.
In regards to whether or not Kanter could have made the alleged statement even though Indiana was coming out for him I believe it is utterly plausible. Political functionaries have about as much class as grave diggers. Soon as they think no one is looking they are laughing, farting and spitting in the grave.
A person I am close to works for a an agency involved with candidate security. He is an avowed republican, a person who believes any negative statement that has ever been made about the former first lady. He is unable to say who he has ever covered or where he goes. But I did ask him recently what was the opinion among his associates as to which one of the candidates was not a jerk. Obama, he answered without hesitation. He says he has seen certain individuals give a speech in front of an auditorium full of avid supporters and give the stump speech with a sprinkling of local hardee har har, then turn from the stage walk down the plank and go up to their logistics person and say "get me out of this shit hole." He said it was common enough that Obama was the only one known for not doing it. Does a low score on the jerkometer qualify one to be president, not necessarity.
But it makes sense. He has never run a national campaign before, he is not jaded like the rest. He is an organizer....that’s for sure. I don’t know if this assessment of Obama is correct, since I have never met him personally. This is just a story told me by someone I believe (and disagree with politically) who has not reason to give props to Barack, though he harbors an irrational dislike of Hillary.
Did Kantor say what has been posted? Who knows? Could he or Carville or Stephanopolis have said such a thing? Absolutely.
It is a sad state of affairs that more could be made of this non event, non issue from 16 years ago than Andrew R. Pearson, 32, of Billings Mt who was killed by an IED in Baghdad. More will be made of this than the political instability of the al-Maliki govt. and what it means if the sadrists go bonkers again. More will be made of this than the lunacy of a gas tax break for the Summer. More than Telecom Immunity, more than receding glaciers, more than the OBVIOUS racism & sexism involved in this campaign not by the candidates, but by the media. More will be made of this than what the Bush Reich has in store for Iran, and you can bet our bottom dollar they will mix it up with them if there is the slightest hope of doing so, even if it means exploiting an over blown story about an NGO boat shooting .50 caliber machine guns and Iranian boats who were coming too close. More will be made of this than the depth of what Jeremiah Wright says is the freaking truth. I would love to see Sean Hannity have a debate in a non Fox environment with Ayers. But that would be meaningless, too, because all of this shite is pumped out to distract the American People from confronting the enormity of what lies ahead, and which of these candidates is truly best suited to LEAD our democracy out of this darkness, or their won’t be any gravediggers left to shovel us in.
