John McCain proposed the gas tax holiday that both he and Senator Clinton are spouting as a fix for the summer blues for consumers. I'll leave it to others, who have done a great job already (including 150 Economists), to show why this is a stupid idea for her to support. I was reading TPM earlier today and came across this on their front page. McCain himself has said he'd be willing to stay in Iraq 100 years. Well, TPM has given us some numbers to work with, calculating the cost of this occupation.
I wondered, "How would the gas holiday tax help me afford this war?" Below the fold I crunch some easy numbers, my favorite kind, and give us the monetary costs of two of John McCain's policies.
I'll let my little chart speak for itself:
This simplifies things greatly of course. Maybe they'll make a gas tax holiday EVERY summer from now on to help us afford the war... in which case it'll only cost ya $7045. I'd love to live to see 2085, but I'm not holding my breath. I figure my newborn daughter can take over the payments for me when I'm dust. Of course she doesn't get the gas holiday, so I guess her portion will take a little extra savings... I'll try to instill this in her.
This is only slightly tongue-in-cheek. I'd really like to see a major news outlet discuss just how much a McCain presidency will cost each and every one of us. This is a short diary, but I really think this sort of thing speaks for itself. Please forgive my over-simplification, I'm no accountant by any means.
