Free Republic just posted a Townhall article, "McCain Finds His Own Radical Friend" on McCain's relationship to G. Gordon Liddy. (The connection was posted on DKos by Cedelson 2 weeks ago)
The Townhall article points out that the relationship between McCain and Liddy appears closer than that between Obama and Ayers, and that Liddy continues to make inflammatory statements, including:
Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests. ... Kill the sons of bitches."
The author, Steve Chapman, goes on to say:
How does McCain explain his howling hypocrisy on the subject? He doesn't. I made repeated inquiries to his campaign aides, which they refused to acknowledge, much less answer. On this topic, the pilot of the Straight Talk Express would rather stay parked in the garage.
That's an odd policy for someone who is so forthright about his rival's responsibility. McCain thinks Obama should apologize for associating with a criminal extremist. To which Obama might reply: After you.
Chapman doesn't mention that Obama put out a statement:
Senator Obama strongly condemns the violent actions of the Weathermen group.
While we have yet to see Senator McCain condemn Liddy's actions. He went on Liddy's show on 11-8-07, and said "I'm proud of you" to G. Gordon Liddy, and praised his "principles."
And of course, how do the freepnuts react? Praising Liddy, agreeing with shooting BATF agents, and trashing Steve Chapman because he's a libertarian. (Care about the Constitution much, freepnuts?) My favorite was:
I might also add that Liddy’s radicalism springs from patriotism, not anti-Americanism.
So lawbreaking and subverting the Constitution is fine for these alleged U.S. citizens, as long as they perceive that the ideology accords with theirs, as long as it looks like their definition of patriotism.
Someone ought to tell the freepfolks that subverting the Constitution is not patriotism, and it never was.
