Barrack decided to have a little "Picnic" in Fort Wayne IN Sunday. This was last minute thing, announced Saturday morning. With very little advertising and just canvassers handing out fliers an estimated 4,700 people showed up. I have a sister who grew in the 60’s I’m 17 years younger so I was a child of the eighties, but I always felt a connection to that time and longed to be a part of a real cultural revolution to more inclusive and peaceful society. I always felt I had been born two decades too late.... Not anymore.
More below the fold.
Close observers and those of us working and volunteering inside the Obama campaign have know this is more than a campaign, for a while now. The MSM has refused to recognize it as such. But I think I capture proof through my camera lens.
When you have can catch a guy in an "ARMY" shirt and another guy decked out in peace symbols both signing up at the same table to volunteer for your "campaign" you have officially become a "movement".
When you have this type of diversity and breadth of support:
YOU HAVE A MOVEMENT
A movement is a harder to run than a campaign..
You can run a campaign by polling and pandering.... "Geee.. what do the people want to hear today? What do the polls say? How can we pander to that?" (Did someone say Gas tax? obliterate Iran?)
To establish movement you have to lay out a vision, like say a lobbyist free Whitehouse, or a politics driven by hope instead of fear. And you have to convince people that this vision can be a reality. You have to actually lead people down a path that may seem daunting and unachievable. Down a path that might feel completely foreign. But anywhere this Movement goes... slowly it builds. Slowly but surely...
This Movement is people powered. People giving a 10 minute chunks to make calls during their day. People giving up an afternoon to walk their neighborhood and talk to people face to face. People willing to drive people to polls, drop door hangers with polling location, make food for other volunteers, give up beds and open up their homes to complete strangers from six states away. Volunteers will be how we win this thing. Corporate America’s big money donors, and the corporate owned MSM, aren’t going to help. The barons of the new gilded age aren’t going to just roll over. We need to get out there..... Everyone. On this path to recovery and healing we have moved from the "Problem Identification" stage. We know what the problem is; that corporations can buy/lobby their way into controlling the policy making process, and the main stream media aid and abet this activity to protect their advertising revenue (not to mentions the special interest that they themselves represent) We know what the problem is, we are now in the ACTION stage.
Time to get up and get out and start collecting not just votes but volunteers who can spread this movement virally. No 527 can stop us from showing up on someone’s door step and telling them what the real deal is. The MSM can top us from calling individual voters and sharing our thoughts on how this system works fails and how we can fix it.
So SIGN UP! GET OUT IN THE FRESH AIR AND MEET NEW AND INTERESTING PEOPLE!
I close with the kids:
Tye Dye!!
PS I want to give a shout out to my girl Jenesis who drove with me 13 hours from NYC to canvass here in Indiana.
She had her heart set on meeting up with a few of here friends in Indianapolis to work the GOTV effort there. Instead she "took one for the team" and stayed with me here in Fort Wayne. This little city is back in play for Obama and did not get as much out of state support, but we are turning the tide and laying the foundation for victory... if not now, then November..... Slowly but surely change is coming..
