On CNN.com there is a quick vote: "Democrats, what will you do if your candidate isn't the nominee?" As of this writing, 41% say they will vote for McCain. (BTW, this is not a request to freep this survey). I find this astoundingly disappointing.
If you are one of those who says they will vote for "McSame" if your candidate doesn't win the nomination, then think about this.
You are not a Democrat, or a Liberal, or a Progressive. You are not voting for a set of policies, a national agenda, or even a political philosophy. You are voting based on your personal identification with the candidate, and I'll bet that is based on gender or race.
If Clinton's your candidate, you probably view Obama as an arrogant, conceited black man. If you are an Obama supporter, then you probably view Clinton as an power-hungry, shrewish white woman. Either way, you are probably willing to vote for McCain just to spite the other candidate.
How sad.
How sad that that's what's become most important to many in this race. Not ending the war in Iraq. Not the economy. Not the environment. Not even the Supreme Court. It's all about "your" candidate winning, or else.
Both Hillary and Obama have conceded that their policies are virtually identical (certainly in comparison to McCain's). So if your candidate is not the nominee, you are willing to abandon those policies just to ensure the other candidate doesn't win. To hell with the policies, or the future of our country, just teach those other Dems a good lesson.
Again, how sad. I just hope you come to your senses at some point before the national election. Spite is such a pitiful reason to vote.
