Hillary. I have supported you through thick and thin and even alienated some friends along the way. But, now is the time to look the truth in the eyes and gracefully exit this contest. It's over and the only theoretical way for you to get the nomination at this point would be so destructive to the party that we risk losing all of the formidable gains Democrats have made this cycle.
We can not afford a McPain presidency and the resulting ultra conservative SCOTUS that would ensue.
Please, do the right thing.
Update: Very well. Sometimes 'short and sweet' tell a better story than lots of verbiage. But some think that anything short should only be hidden away as comments in open threads. So be it.
I chose to write this as a diary simply because this was a decision that cost me a lot of soul searching. I have been increasingly discouraged by the harsh and mean rhetoric that many on DKos have directed at anyone with the belief that Hillary was worth supporting.
Don't get me wrong, I have long known how heated things get around here during elections. You invest in a candidate and it becomes an emotional issue. And this place has not been short on emotional outbursts from all sides.
I still admire Hillary. I still admire Obama.
Let me tell you, there is a threshold to cross when a presidential candidate is younger than you are, (albeit only by a matter of a few months in Obama's case).
I think politics in general and US politics in particular has a bad imbalance of mostly male, mostly white representatives. I thought it way overdue that a woman with true potential finally grace the nation by leading it as president. And I think that health care is one of the most important issues facing the USA today.
Her plan is excellent and I hope Obama can take a good second look at it.
In any case, I am very proud to support him hereon in. In all ways, walk, talk and $$$
Peace
