It's sadly indicative of not only the current administration, but the prior near decade of complete Republican control over all government agencies, what it takes for any "progress" to finally happen for the average working American. It's tragically no different for our hard working military, in spite of all the "support our troops" rhetoric from those that do anything but...
Today is the Armed Services' Military Spouse Appreciation Day or Military Families First weekend as it's known in my District which includes Fort Bragg, where the Army just approved $2.9 million to fix the substandard living conditions.
It's the same story all over America. Just as it took the patriotic father of Sgt. Jeff Frawley embarrasing our government on YouTube to address decades of neglect for the living conditions of our military heroes, it takes millions of working families losing their homes, jobs, health insurance and dignity for this administration to even consider action, or more accurately reaction.
And that my friends is the defining difference in the politics as usual of the last decade and the progressive populist movement of the next. This administration, notorious for punctuating its own failures with a grandiose pat on the back for reacting too little, too late, will no doubt crow about the $248 million approved to finally repair barracks around the world as a testament to its commitment to the troops.
In my District, we've known about the needs of our military families for some time. It was a decade ago that my opponent, Republican Robin Hayes, was first sent a request for a VA Outpatient Clinic in the heart of our District to reduce the travel burden on our aging veteran population.
"This has definitely taken a while," Hayes said of the new clinic. "But, the lesson learned is that if you hold on to your principles and ideas, you can make a difference."
Or rather, if you elect a Democratic majority in Congress to finally approve funding as we did in 2006, lives finally begin to improve.
That is why we need more, and better Democrats in Congress, to expand our Majority, stop playing catch-up on the destructive policies of the last decade, and finally begin to make some real progress for our military families, as well as all the working families in America.
I'm honored to be among the short list of Progressive Patriots in competition for a $5,000 campaign contribution toward that goal of changing Washington for the better, and I ask for your VOTE NOW!
Thank you, and please do thank a military family today, as my campaign and our army of volunteers do every day.
