MYANMAR JUNTA DIDDLES WHILE BURMESE DIE
IF EVER THERE WERE A CASE FOR REGIME CHANGE . . .
Generals Intent Upon Profiting From Disaster
The Myanmar Junta refuse to allow foreign aid workers in, demanding money instead, those Burmese Army thugs who run that country by brute force and constant fear. All entreaties have failed. The Franco-American invasion bluff has, if anything, made matters worse by giving the regime an excuse to block entry by foreigners. The Chinese simply don't care what happens in Burma. That leaves it up to us. You and me.

A week after the deadly cyclone that has killed as many as 100,000 people, only a few relief workers are on the ground in the Irrawaddy delta. Most of them have been there for weeks, months, or years, trying to help some of the poorest people in Asia. They have pipelines established for money, food, clothing, medicine and temporary housing. More of them, more of everything, is needed. You can help by donating to those established disaster-relief agencies with aid-workers right there in Burma right now.
The following is a list of honest, efficient non-religious NGO's that have been in Myanmar since well before the cyclone hit. They have the wherewithal to do more than anyone else can to help the Burmese people right now. Please click on these links to TARGET donations of any amount, large or small, online, directly to the Burmese people. Please do it now. Thank you.
ACTION AID
"ActionAid is well placed with our office in Myanmar and fellows located throughout rural villages. ActionAid’s Strategic Crisis Fund allows us to disperse funds immediately to provide relief in emergency situations. Additionally our established partnership with KDN who is well placed within 276 of villages hit by the cyclone has greatly aided in our emergency response. Our Strategic Crisis Fund, placement and selection of staff, fellows and partners allowed our assessment and relief to begin immediately and within the worst affected areas and populations. Please help support the people of Myanmar affected by Cyclone Nargis."

Medecins Sans Frontieres/ Doctors Without Borders
"Myanmar Cyclone: MSF Teams Bring Immediate Assistance While Additional Staff and Relief Materials are Ready to be Sent
Geneva/New York, May 7, 2008 — Immediately after Cyclone Nargis hit several regions of Myanmar, teams in the country with the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) began assessing and responding to the needs of the population in Yangon and in neighboring areas. First assessments show that in the Daala and Twantey zones, south of Yangon and home to 300,000 people, 80 percent of buildings have been destroyed and some parts of the region are still flooded under one meter of water.
MSF teams, who are able to circulate freely, have distributed food and plastic sheeting, and have begun treating water in Yangon. In the outskirts of the city, MSF has organized the distribution of plastic sheeting, jerry cans, and fuel for water pumps to some 5,000 people. Yesterday, teams were also able to distribute one week’s worth of food rations composed of rice, dried beans, and oil to 1,000 people in the Twantey area. Malaria and dengue fever are prevalent—even endemic—in this area, so MSF is also planning a mosquito net distribution in the coming days.

TARGET DONATION
Save The Children
"As the death toll in Myanmar continues to rise as a result of Cyclone Nargis which struck the country's southwest coast on Saturday, May 3, Save the Children staff members have launched relief efforts in five regions hardest hit by the storm.
Officials are estimating that 22,000 have died from the storm, with as many as 1 million left homeless. Save the Children estimates that the death toll could reach up to 50,000 with 2-3 million children and family members homeless and in desperate need of water, food, shelter and medicine.
Since Monday, Save the Children has distributed 2 metric tons of food, plastic sheeting, water purification tablets, kitchen equipment, re-hydration salts and other non food items to over 30,000 children and families whose homes have been destroyed.
"Save the Children is mobilizing its staff of 500 employees in 35 offices across the affected region to assist vulnerable children and families who have lost their homes in this most recent disaster," said Ned Olney, Save the Children's Vice President for International Humanitarian Response. "We have started emergency distributions and are hopeful to increase our coverage in the days ahead."
Authorities have declared five regions with an estimated total population of 24 million to be in a state of emergency, including Yangon (Rangoon) Division, Pegu Division, Mon State, Karen State and the Irrawaddy Division. This delta is considered to be the country's rice basket and already, the cost of food has doubled in many markets.
Save the Children currently operates programs in all five of the affected regions and has worked in Myanmar since 1995. As one of the largest nongovernmental organizations at work in Myanmar, the agency implements programs focused on early childhood care and development, child survival and child protection."
