This diary will be personal.
I have a few stories to tell, to help others understand why Hillary enjoys such loyalty from her supporters.
Why women such as myself have a hard time letting go of that support.
What we have gone through to even be able to have a woman as a viable candidate for President.
Please follow after the fold.....
I remember my first "real" job. I was 19 and hired as the assistant manager in the shipping department for a brass manufacturing firm. I had been working since the age of 14, so I did have some experience.
I enjoyed the job, was very good at it in fact. So good that I trained 3 of my male bosses. That's right, I trained THREE of my male bosses. After the third one, I thought, hmmm, why am I training the boss instead of being the boss. So I asked the male owner of the company just that.
I was told that a "girl" couldn't handle the job.
Out loud and to my face.
See that was allowed back then (in 1980).
The third boss had a habit of being "handsy". Leaning over me at my desk, brushing up against me, making "certain" comments.
And I thought, hmmmm, I shouldn't have to tolerate this kind of treatment. So I told the male HR person just that.
I was told that we could discuss this over drinks after work.
Out loud and to my face.
See that was allowed back then.
So I quit. That was my choice.
Put up with it or quit.
I decided the next company I worked for would respect me and if they didn't I would make them.
And I did.
The long fight some of us have put in just to get respect is probably foreign to most young ladies in the workforce today.
The indignities and embarrassment we had to put up with is unthinkable today.
But if it weren't for women like me who said, hell no I am not going to be treated that way and you will treat me with dignity and respect then things probably would not have changed like they have.
I have come from a time (born in 1960) when just the thought of having a woman even run for President was pretty much unthinkable.
She would lose, guaranteed.
But that is no longer the truth.
So those of you who do not understand why Hillary will not drop out, well I will tell you why.
Imagine, if you will, a life long dream.
One you have struggled to attain, worked for a long time.
You have put up with crap that most of us wouldn't tolerate for a second.
You have been villified in the press for years, people don't hesitate to call you and your family names.
But you continue because you feel you are the best person to be the President of the United States.
Imagine that and then imagine being told to just chuck that dream.
Throw it away.
Give up, even though your opponent, a man, hasn't won yet.
Give up, just because he's ahead.
Give up, even though your opponent hasn't won yet!
Hell no! I don't blame her for staying in it. All who say it's hurting the party are wrong in my opinion. This has been the most exciting primary I have ever seen and tons of new voters are registering.
But the main point of my diary is, don't judge unless you have walked a mile in someone elses shoes.
Hillary should quit only when she has been beaten, fair and square.
And not one second sooner.
